Why I Make: featuring The Chicago Knights Robotics Team
“Why I Make” was created for Chicago City of Learning’s “Creators’ Playlist” . It features some members of the Chicago Knights Robotics team based out of the LevelUp maker space in the Ford City Mall on Chicago’s southside. The Chicago Knights embody the Creators’ Playlist’s goal of engaging young people in designing, making, and building technologies. They are one of the only community based robotics teams and regularly compete in competitions throughout the city and state. They participate in maker fairs promoting the maker movement. And last year they were invited to the White House to participate in a science fair and meet President Obama.
But at the end of the day, the Chicago Knights like hanging out at the LevelUp maker space thinking of things to design and build. They do more than just build robots. When we were filming this video they were building a C+C machine for the space. Edgar had recently gotten into aquaponics and was sharing an idea he had for designing and building his own aquaponics setup.
In this video, the Chicago Knights share their thoughts on why they make and what they enjoy most about making.
