Queen Beez is a non-for-profit program in DC that helps young girls to uplift and express themselves by giving them the tools to write their own hip-hop songs and produce their own music videos.
The program focuses on groups of 6th grade girls that meet with professional female mentors to learn about their environment and leadership during weekly Saturday workshops.
“It’s all about finding your voice and finding the confidence to use your voice,”
During the workshops, the girls focus on transferring their knowledge to their communities by writing and filming positive hip-hop videos.
“It’s all about finding your voice and finding the confidence to use your voice,” Monique Schmidt, Director of Education at Living Classrooms’ Queen Beez, said.
The girls become involved in strengthening their communities while at the same time focusing on their own self improvement.
“We’ve all been very open about the fact that we’re on a journey,” Schmidt said.
